volunteer teacher project

The Project recruits talents graduated within two years from top universities. Members of this project will work as full-time teachers for two years in rural schools with relatively scarce education resource. During the period, TFC will provide sustainable and systematic training and support. The Project aims at helping improve rural school education quality, as well as increasing members’ practical and cooperative ability, which will assist them to grow and to realize their dreams. The project members can get students involved, arouse their interest in study, enhance their sense of accomplishment through teaching and extracurricular activities, while accompany them and care for them. They also exert influence on children’s psychological well-being, spiritual development and cultivation of good habits and set up good examples for children. Moreover, the project members have the real platform to promote education equality and will further understand education status in China. The project started in 2009.

Recruitment

The Project intends to recruit graduates from top national universities through strict procedure. Applicants register online and submit a detailed application form. Then they may go through one written test, two telephone interviews and one trial lecture before they receive pre-admission notice. Those who get pre-admissions are requested to attend monthly online seminars and complete personal tasks and team tasks accordingly. By these means, the Project continually assesses  applicants’ qualifications, pushes them to learn so as to lay a solid theory foundation for two-year teaching practice. The most cherished virtues by the Project are: perseverance, ability to find, analyze and solve problems, teamwork capability and being responsible and active.

Pre-job Training

Before teaching, project members are scheduled to participate in a one-month training session to understand the current situation of education in China’s rural areas, to learn advanced education concepts at home and abroad, to practice teaching simulation and to acquire basic teaching skills. During the sessions, project members will learn about education and teaching, charity concept, life planning, teamwork, self-management and etc., which can help them make the first step to realize their ideals with great determination and pragmatism.  Most training sessions will be arranged in rural schools or migrant schools so the members can have real experience and get prepared for their future environment.

Team and Working Platform

At the beginning of two-year teaching practice, the Project will assist the members to build team and set up communication platform so they can have mutual support. In addition, an external communication platform is going to help them get connected and informed, on which they can also demonstrate their abilities while fulfilling their responsibilities in the schools.

Training and Support

During the two-year period, the Project members will receive continuous support in their teaching practice and professional capability development. There will be 3 or 4 unified or regional trainings every year. the project members are encouraged to organize their own workshops in the areas they work. Regional instructors will help them with their daily work. Appropriate local charity projects will be introduced to them. Their efforts to carry out education improvement in the communities or in the schools will be appreciated. The project members can be provided with opportunities to travel to other areas for training. Field visits by the Project staff will be paid periodically. Additionally, living expenses, commuting allowance, accident insurance and physical examination will be offered.

Alumni Association

Alumni Association amasses the strength of former and present project members to support the two-year teaching practice and profession transition afterwards. All the members continually pay attention to education and make great efforts to promote balanced and sound development of education in China.
